Kique Hernandez Opens Up About Playoff Incident
Dodgers outfielder Kique Hernandez recently shared a rather unusual experience from a playoff game, which he also discussed on a podcast this week.
During an episode of the Cold Ashball podcast, hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, Hernandez revealed that he had been taking antibiotics for a cracked root canal, which led to some rather embarrassing side effects, including diarrhea.
“I was getting ready to step in as a designated hitter,” Hernandez recalled. “Dustin May threw a pitch, and I thought, ‘Wow, I’ve got this!’ But then I realized I might have, well, miscalculated my bodily functions, and I ended up running up the stairs to hit.” It’s amusing but also, I mean—yikes.
He continued, “I hit three pitches, and honestly, I’ve never felt so relieved to make a hit in my life.”
While he didn’t specify a particular game on the podcast, he did mention some backstory, including social media posts from the Red Sox in 2023 that hinted at similar events. The incident itself took place during the 2020 playoffs while he was still with the Dodgers, although he didn’t directly acknowledge that it was the game in question.
Having played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball, Hernandez spent nine of those years with the Dodgers. His career also includes stints with the Red Sox, Astros, and Marlins.
Remarkably, he was on two championship teams—the 2020 Dodgers, who won during the unique circumstances of the pandemic, and again in 2024 against the Yankees.
So far this season, he has a batting average of .229 for the Dodgers.
