This week, Robert Griffin III’s wife shared a heartfelt photo of them together on Instagram, seemingly amidst a social media spat involving Griffin’s former NFL teammate, Ryan Clark.
The Instagram stories captured Grete smiling at the camera, surrounded by animated hearts, while sitting with Griffin and their seven-year-old child.
She included a sweet caption with a heart emoji and tagged Griffin’s Instagram handle.
Griffin, 35, and Grete, who share three daughters, were mentioned by Clark earlier this week in connection with a rivalry involving Fox Sports personalities Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.
During a recent game, there was a controversial foul involving Reese, after which discussions arose regarding the on-court tension between her and Caitlin Clark.
Griffin later commented on the social media dynamics, mentioning how Reese claimed, “I can’t keep pretending she doesn’t dislike Caitlin Clark.”
In his posts, Griffin expressed his views on the situation, saying, “I know what hatred looks like. Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. However, I don’t dislike basketball rivalries. In fact, I kind of dislike them,” he stated.
He followed up on his “Outta Pocket” podcast, where Grete made an appearance in the background, elaborating further on the topic.
Clark, 45, shared his thoughts too, arguing that Griffin’s stance positions Reese as a villain in the narrative surrounding Clark’s rise as a star player.
Clark remarked about Griffin’s understanding of the challenges faced by young women like Reese, questioning if they had meaningful conversations about racial dynamics within their families.
He pointed out that both their wives are white, insinuating a disconnect in their perspectives.
As Clark’s comments gained traction online, Griffin responded, stating, “Ryan Clark disagrees with my perspective on Angel Reese’s feelings toward Caitlin Clark. That’s okay. Disagreements happen. But instead of simply debating the issue, he made personal remarks about my family.” Griffin expressed his disappointment at being attacked personally on social media.
In another post, he mentioned that Clark’s comments felt misguided and weak, attacking his family rather than addressing the sports issue itself.
Clark, however, reiterated that he did not attack Griffin’s family but was referencing Griffin’s commentary on social media and television, implying that he respects Grete beyond just her race.
The ongoing back-and-forth between Clark and Griffin continues to garner attention, particularly as their heated exchanges spread across platforms like TikTok.
The rivalry between Reese and Caitlin Clark dates back to their college days, having faced off in the 2023 National Championship Game, where Reese’s LSU team triumphed over Clark’s Iowa squad with a score of 102-85.
The Fever will go up against the Sky on June 7.
