Former Trump Advisor John Bolton on Claims of Mediation Between India and Pakistan

John Bolton on Trump’s Role in India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Former US National Security Adviser John Bolton has expressed skepticism about President Donald Trump’s assertions regarding his influence in stopping tensions between India and Pakistan. He remarked that Trump tends to claim credit for everything, which, in his view, isn’t warranted in this case. Bolton defended India’s actions against Pakistan, specifically referring to “Operation Sindoah,” stating that New Delhi is justified in taking self-defensive measures against terrorist sites in Pakistan after a deadly attack that resulted in 26 fatalities on April 22.

While discussing his thoughts with ANI, Bolton emphasized the importance of Pakistan taking responsibility for terrorist activities within its borders, cautioning that lack of control could lead to serious repercussions.

“India had the right to respond in self-defense to locations in Pakistan where terrorist plans were being devised,” he noted. His stance suggests that unchecked terrorism could create further instability, and if Pakistan fails to manage it, they would have to deal with the consequences.

Bolton mentioned that Trump’s eagerness to claim involvement in diplomatic resolutions “is not aimed personally at India.” He pointed out that Trump often jumps in prematurely, which can indeed be frustrating.

Interestingly, he also indicated that during his time in office, the US president might have reached out to key figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

On another note, Bolton commented on the promotion of Pakistani Army Secretary Asim Munier to Field Marshal, labeling it a concerning signal. He remarked on the suppression of internal dissent in Pakistan, referencing Imran Khan’s imprisonment and suggesting that this situation is not in Pakistan’s best interest.

In closing, Bolton backed India’s initiative to engage with partner nations to highlight its ongoing struggle against terrorism. He feels it’s crucial to raise global awareness about these attacks.
