Tyrese Haliburton mimicked Reggie Miller’s famous taunt as the Knicks faltered in Game 1 against the Pacers.

Pacers Pull Off Stunning Overtime Comeback Against Knicks

The matchup between the Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks felt like a classic right from the start. Game 1 brought one of the most exhilarating playoff comebacks witnessed at Madison Square Garden.

In a thrilling overtime showdown, the Pacers edged the Knicks, 138-135. New York seemed to be in control, leading by 14 points with just 2:45 left. But Indiana ignited a furious comeback, highlighted by Tyrese Halliburton’s seemingly game-winning shot in the fourth quarter, which was ultimately ruled a two-pointer due to his foot being on the line. In overtime, Obi Toppin’s acrobatic dunk clinched the victory, making it one of the most memorable games in NBA playoff history.

There were numerous wild moments in the game, but it began with Aaron Nesmith, who drained five three-pointers in the crucial final minutes. The Knicks faltered at the free-throw line with missed attempts from Karl Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby, allowing the Pacers to tie the game during their last possession.

As Halliburton maneuvered around Mikal Bridges and hit what appeared to be a legendary three-pointer, he celebrated alongside Reggie Miller, who was commentating on the game, believing it was the winning shot. However, replays showed Halliburton’s foot was on the line.

Had the Knicks won in overtime, Halliburton might have faced ridicule, but the Pacers had other plans. Andrew Nembhard started overtime strong, scoring five consecutive points, and Toppin sealed the game with a dunk in the final minute.

Since 1997, the NBA has seen teams leading by 14 points with 2:45 remaining in a playoff game win 994 out of 994 times until this instance.

There’s a certain animosity between Knicks fans and Trae Young, but Halliburton seemed intent on becoming a thorn in their side. He even gestured in a nod to Reggie Miller’s iconic choke sign during the game.

This playoff atmosphere was reminiscent of 1995 when Reggie Miller famously scored 8 points in 9 seconds in Game 1.

Wearing Tims – a shoe strongly associated with New York – Halliburton showcased not just his skill but also an understanding of the game’s culture. The Pacers’ comeback in the 2025 playoffs marks a thrilling chapter, with Halliburton leading the charge with 31 points and 11 assists; however, it was a collective effort, as Nesmith added 30 points to the tally.

Halliburton truly made an impact, as he pushed the Knicks to their limits and proved this series will be hard-fought.
