Gift of Billionaire Stepfather to Kathy Chuy

Kathy Chuy, a former actress turned well-known socialite in Hong Kong, has received an astonishing gift of over HK$2 billion (around Rs 2,134 crore) from her billionaire stepfather, Lee Shaw Key. This was just before she tied the knot on March 17. Reports suggest that along with this lavish monetary gift, she also received yachts and mansions.

Chuy has gained the nickname “10 Billion Daughter” in tabloids, thanks to this combination of gifts over the years. Her marriage to Martin Lee, the son of billionaire tycoon Lee Shaw Kee, took place in 2006 and was famously dubbed “The Wedding of the Century.” Initially, the media portrayed her as merely fulfilling a domestic role due to the couple’s quick succession of four children. However, she has since transformed into a significant player within her family’s business endeavors, recognized for her discretion and business acumen.

Who is Kathy Chuy?

Kathy Chuy, born in Sydney, Australia in 1982, is also referred to as Kathy Twi or Kathy Lee. Her rise to prominence came with her marriage to Martin Lee Kasin, connecting her to the wealthy Lee family, founded by Lee Shaw Kee of Henderson Land Development. The couple’s opulent wedding was a spectacle that captivated many.

As the only stepdaughter in Hong Kong’s richest family, Chuy is a mother to four children, all born between 2007 and 2015. Now at 43, she has carved a more commanding role in both family and investment businesses. Recent reports indicate she has leveraged properties from her late father-in-law to secure HK$5 billion for an upcoming real estate project in the UK.

Chuy is also keen on ensuring her children’s futures within the family business. Her eldest daughter is currently interning at Henderson Land and studying at Cambridge University. In an interesting move, she has appointed her father to the company’s board of directors.

In addition to her business ventures, Chuy maintains her status among the elite through charitable work and other societal contributions. Despite a low-key presence online, she fulfills important roles in various charitable organizations and events, standing alongside prominent women like Olympic champions. Tatler Asia has recognized her as a significant figure in philanthropy, and in 2018, she was awarded the AMFAR Award for Courage for her contributions to society.
