UN Israeli Ambassador Comments on Embassy Staff Shootings
In a recent interview with CNN, Danny Danon, the Israeli Ambassador to the UN, addressed the tragic shootings of two staff members from the Israeli embassy that occurred on Wednesday. He urged the federal government to consider practical measures to address the ongoing unrest at universities. Danon emphasized the importance of ensuring freedom of speech while maintaining that agitation and violence should not be tolerated.
Reflecting on recent campus incidents, he noted, “We’ve witnessed calls for the destruction of Israel and even death threats. I believe last night’s events stemmed from provocation. Authorities must take decisive action not just against this terrorism, but also in response to those who harbor anger towards Israel.” He continued by expressing gratitude to President e-Trump for his supportive remarks, and he mentioned that he expects to hear denunciations of the attack from leaders across various political parties. However, Danon stressed that words alone are insufficient. “The federal government needs to focus on resolving the chaos at universities,” he said, pointing out that Jewish students have faced challenges in accessing their classrooms.
Danon further remarked, “You can’t expect to have security personnel at every synagogue or around every Jewish student. Therefore, we need to tackle the underlying messages. It’s crucial to confront the level of agitation present today in both Europe and the US.”
