The CEO of Tinder, Faye Iosotaluno, will step down in July amid challenges for dating apps in expanding their user base and dealing with pressure from activist investors. Her announcement, shared in a LinkedIn post, marks the end of her nearly eight-year tenure with Tinder and its parent company, Match Group. Before becoming CEO, she held positions as Chief Operating Officer at Tinder and Strategy Officer at Match Group.
Spencer Raskoff, the CEO of Match Group, mentioned in his own LinkedIn update that they had been preparing for Iosotaluno’s exit over the past few months to ensure a seamless transition.
Raskoff has taken the reins to lead Tinder in the interim but hasn’t revealed who will replace Iosotaluno.
As for market performance, Match Group shares were up by 0.8% by mid-afternoon ET.
This change adds to the list of leadership adjustments within the dating app giant, which owns other platforms like Hinge, OkCupid, and Plenty of Fish. Raskoff himself took on the role of sole CEO at Match Group in February, succeeding Bernard Kim, who resigned after less than three years, amid growing interest from activists.
Additionally, just last month, Raskoff announced that the company’s Chief Technology Officer would resign at the end of May, but no successor has been named yet.
Reports indicate that activist investors Elliott Management, Right Board Value, and Anson Fund have increased their stakes in Match Group. In March, the company welcomed two new board members after a $1 billion investment from Elliott Management.
In efforts to counteract activist influence, Raskoff is leading a turnaround strategy, which includes a 13% reduction in the workforce, significantly affecting Tinder.
Executives are optimistic about returning Tinder to revenue growth. However, Iosotaluno previously indicated that this goal might not be realized until 2027. Still, Raskoff has expressed confidence in the product developments at Tinder, including the introduction of an AI feature called “Wingman,” which tests double dating options in Europe and assists users with conversation starters and flirting tips.
“We have a solid foundation, so our focus is on what lies ahead. Tinder’s leadership team is dedicated to creating products that resonate with our users’ evolving needs,” Raskoff stated in his LinkedIn post.
“This next phase is about momentum, innovation, and maximizing our potential,” he added.
