Concerns About Biden’s Health Surface Among Former Aides
In a recent podcast, former Obama aide John Lovett candidly shared his worries about President Joe Biden’s health as the 2024 election approaches, despite wanting to see him re-elected. Lovett reflected on two specific events that highlighted Biden’s noticeable decline: the White House Correspondents’ Dinner Weekend in April and a July fundraising event organized by actor George Clooney, which was discussed in a New York Times op-ed.
While speaking with Jon Stewart, Lovett expressed his hesitance to publicly voice concerns about Biden’s age and health, fearing it might negatively impact Biden’s chances for re-election. He mentioned, “I don’t want to imply that he should step down just because of his age,” emphasizing that he wasn’t fully aware of everything happening behind the scenes and wanted to support Biden if he was the candidate.
Lovett further mentioned how he didn’t want his words to be misconstrued or weaponized against Biden. He believes it’s crucial to acknowledge Biden’s age while ensuring efforts are made to support his re-election.
Lovett co-hosts a podcast called “Pod Save America,” alongside other former aides like Dan Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer also recounted his experience at the April reception, mentioning that Biden seemed to struggle, noting, “He told the same story twice and appeared quite old.” However, he insisted he never thought that Biden wasn’t capable of fulfilling the presidential role.
Both Lovett and Pfeiffer conveyed that they were convinced by others that Biden’s behavior at the event wasn’t indicative of a serious decline. It’s worth noting that a report published by Special Advisor Robert Herr earlier in February 2024 revealed that Biden was found with classified documents, but no charges were filed, as he was described as a “sympathetic, well-meaning older person with a bad memory.”
Transcripts of conversations with Biden disclosed moments of forgetfulness, including his recollections about the day his late son Beau passed away. In the context of media coverage, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo claimed that the discussion surrounding Biden’s decline is not a result of ignorance but rather influenced by a desire for him to challenge Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
Recently, Biden’s office announced that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing concerns regarding his health and future as a candidate.
