Jamie Foxx Addresses Hospitalization and Rumors
Jamie Foxx has been discussing the circumstances surrounding his hospitalization in 2023, hinting at conspiracy theories linking Sean “Diddy” Combs to his health crisis.
While participating in roundtable discussions with fellow comedians, Foxx shared insights about his recovery after a near-fatal stroke. He recounted feeling heavily sedated and, despite being unwell, sneaking glimpses at his phone to see public reactions to his condition.
“People thought I was in bad shape. I— I saw things online saying, ‘The swelling tried to kill me.’ No, that’s not true. The swelling didn’t have a vendetta against me,” he reflected humorously.
Interestingly, Foxx mentioned how he feels that “God sometimes runs away in Hollywood,” which adds a layer of complexity to his observations about fame and adversity.
At the time, unfounded rumors claimed that Combs sought to silence Foxx, alleging that he may have been involved in a crime. These rumors surfaced while Combs faces legal troubles.
Though friends before these issues arose, Foxx had previously joked in a comedy special that the internet had been making outrageous claims. “They were saying things like, ‘Diddy tried to kill him,’ and I thought, ‘Of all people?’ I had a good laugh about it,” he said.
During his recovery, another bizarre rumor reached him—that he was a clone— which he found particularly distressing. Foxx described being in his hospital bed and envisioning himself as a different race, thinking, “They must be trying to make me a white version for better overseas sales.” It was, of course, a wild thought fueled by medications, leading to a humorous exchange with his psychiatrist.
Foxx also touched on light-hearted moments from his comedic career, referencing a joke about Oprah Winfrey that resonated well with his friend, Gayle King. He shared how this particular joke stirred some humor among his peers.
“After winning an Oscar for playing Ray Charles, there was a rumor about me dating Oprah, and I just had to play along. ‘So I’m lying in bed with Oprah?’ That got a laugh every time,” he recalled, noting how the rumor became an unexpected source of comedy.
As Foxx continues to navigate through recovery, it’s clear that he uses humor not only to cope but also to connect with audiences and colleagues alike, turning speculation into laughter.
