DHS Secretary Kristi Noem Responds Strongly to Dismissal of Immigration Lawsuit Against Gitmo

On Thursday, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Director Kristi Noem made a brief statement following the dismissal of a lawsuit involving ten undocumented immigrants against the department.

The lawsuit, initiated in March, contested the Trump administration’s actions aimed at transporting undocumented groups to Guantanamo Bay, a U.S. detention facility, often referred to as “Gitmo.”

Noem took to social media on Thursday to share court documents confirming the rejection of the case, adding a rather blunt remark, “sucking it.”

According to the Associated Press, around fifteen attorneys are challenging the Trump administration’s plans to relocate a group of undocumented immigrants, who had been detained in the U.S., to facilities in Cuba.

The lawyers submitted a declaration from a man who was reportedly mistreated there, describing conditions as a “living hell.”

The federal lawsuit surfaced less than a month after the same attorney sought access to immigrants already held at the Cuban naval base after unlawfully residing in the U.S. Both lawsuits, backed by the American Civil Liberties Union, were filed in Washington.

The DHS has accused one of the plaintiffs, Maker Espinoza Escarona, of being affiliated with the violent Tren de Aragua (TDA) gang. It’s also claimed that his partner, Yorelly Escarleth Bernal Inciarte, was involved in the gang’s recruitment of young women for drug trafficking and prostitution.

This development coincides with warnings from the White House that individuals committing crimes would face deportation and be sent back to their home countries under President Trump’s policies. This focus on enforcement has intensified following the rise in crime linked to President Biden’s border policies.

Noem, who visited Guantanamo Bay in February, has noted in the past that the facility holds “the worst of the worst.” When questioned about current detainees and their offenses, she asserted that they are “murderers, rapists, child molesters, human traffickers, and drug traffickers,” emphasizing the danger they pose to communities.

In her February remarks, Noem stated that the deportation initiatives are “saving lives” every single day.
