Jon Stewart, host of “The Daily Show,” recently shared his thoughts on the Democrats’ new slogan for the 2028 election, reflecting on the party’s challenges during the 2024 campaign.
He drew a parallel between Democratic leaders who backed former President Biden, despite worries regarding his age and health, and Republicans who supported the 2003 invasion of Iraq, dubbing it an “extinction event” for the GOP.
Stewart believes the upcoming presidential election represents “an opportunity to reinvent what this Democrat is.” He expressed that he should feel excited about the prospects, rather than fearful of external factors. “I think anyone who stinks them would be especially successful,” he noted.
He humorously suggested that if the Democrats don’t adopt “We’ll overcome the stink” as their slogan in 2028, it would be a major oversight. “That’s convincing,” remarked Favreau during the segment.
Throughout the episode, Stewart critiqued Biden and his supporters in the 2024 election cycle, emphasizing the need for the next Democratic leader to connect with voters and present a solid argument. He mentioned Biden’s previous candidacy against Hillary Clinton, pointing out the “discussion of resonating it.”
Stewart asked, “Are we too focused on strategy?” He stressed the importance of extending hope and encouragement to families. “This part is abandoning this f-inf-ing game. It’s a pro forma,” he added, highlighting the necessary steps to earn people’s trust for meaningful dialogue.
