“Lilo & Stitch” set for a successful Memorial Day weekend

Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” Sees Major Box Office Success

The live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch” is off to a strong start this Memorial Day weekend, making quite an impact at the box office.

Disney’s latest release pulled in $55 million just on its opening Friday, which is quite impressive. It’s also notable for being the second-largest opening weekend of 2025, following the success of the “Minecraft Movie.”

However, some critics were not impressed. One review described the film as a “soulless downer,” suggesting that it suffers from a dull aesthetic and an overall lack of life.

In terms of competition, “Mission: Impossible – Final Calculation,” the eighth installment of the Tom Cruise series, finished in second place with a solid $24.8 million. Although the action flick has its share of critics, it also received praise for being entertaining despite its over-the-top moments.

Interestingly, despite its title, this film doesn’t seem to signal the end of Tom Cruise’s career. He recently mentioned in an interview that he has no plans to retire soon, which might come as a surprise to some fans.

It’s worth noting that “Final Calculation” was one of the most expensive films ever made, with a production budget of $400 million. This hefty price tag can be attributed to the challenges posed during filming amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moving on to other releases, “Final Destination Bloodlines,” which opened at No. 1 last week, slipped to third place, earning $5.5 million. Meanwhile, “Sinner” and “Thunderbolts” both tied for fourth, bringing in $2.4 million each. Lastly, “The Last Rodeo,” a drama that just came out, secured the fifth position with nearly $2.1 million in sales.
