Zach Galifianakis Keeps Family Away from Hollywood Spotlight
Actor and comedian Zach Galifianakis, perhaps most recognized for his role as Alan in The Hangover series, has shared that he intentionally distances Hollywood from his family amidst his rising fame.
“I’m keeping business away from my family,” he mentioned to People. “I didn’t want to merge my personal life with my work. This is my job, so they aren’t involved.”
Galifianakis, who is married to philanthropist Quinn Randberg and has two sons, once playfully told his kids he was a librarian, not wanting them to know much about his career when they were younger.
“When they were little, I didn’t want them to be aware of anything, so I said it,” he chuckled.
As his children age, they’re becoming aware of his work, especially with the promotion of his latest project, a live-action remake of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, which he has been showcasing in Los Angeles.
His sons, born in September 2013 and November 2016, will soon be 12 and 9 respectively. “They’ll see it,” Galifianakis said when asked if they would watch Lilo & Stitch. “Yeah, we’ll take them to the movies when it’s out.” However, he added, “We live quite remotely, so I’m not sure if it will even be playing where we are.” In this film, he portrays Dr. Jumbaa Jookiba, the scientist responsible for creating Stitch, Disney’s famous blue alien.
Though he prefers to shield his sons from the entertainment industry, he recently brought them along to Hawaii, where he was filming. “It’s a dream situation,” Galifianakis said, partly because of his friendship with director Dean Fleischer Camp.
“I’ve been in this acting game for a while now, so I’m unsure how much longer I can keep it up,” he reflected. “But Dean and I have known each other for years, and I trust him completely as a director.” He expressed confidence in Camp’s work, stating, “I don’t think he can make anything that’s not very good.”
