Jayapal Critiques Democrats’ Approach to Filibuster and Immigration Policies
During an episode of MSNBC’s “Briefing” that aired on Friday, Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) expressed her belief that Democrats should have eliminated the filibuster when they had the chance. She emphasized the need to bypass the filibuster, especially for Republicans who wish to amend tax and immigration legislation.
Jayapal remarked, “Jen, no one has really examined this bill, and that segment of the policy needs to be approved by the senators. The Voting Rights Act is currently being used as a means to ensure that billionaires benefit from permanent tax provisions and to enforce policy reforms.”
She added, “There’s a provision here that effectively nullifies the Flores Agreement, which allows for the indefinite detention of children and immigrant minors. This also contradicts California’s initiatives regarding electric vehicles, especially after they took action with the CRA to bypass the federal guidelines on vehicles.”
