Health officials in Virginia confirmed a second case of measles for the year on Friday. According to the Virginia Department of Health, the case involves a teenager from the northwest area who recently traveled outside the country.
They provided details about possible exposure locations where the teenager may have come into contact with others:
- Charlottesville Albemarle Airport between 2:15 and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
- Play it Again Sports store, located at 1885 Seminole Trail in Charlottesville, from 2:40 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
- Goodwill Store and Donation Center at 440 Gander Drive in Charlottesville, between 3:10 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
- The UVA Health Primary Care Riverside clinic at 2335 Seminole Lane, Suite 200 in Charlottesville, from 2 to 7:10 p.m. on Thursday.
- The UVA Health University Medical Center Emergency Department at 1215 Lee Street in Charlottesville, between midnight and 6 a.m. on Friday.
The first case this year was reported in April, involving a child under four who may have exposed individuals at clinics in Fredericksburg and Woodbridge.
The Virginia Department of Health emphasized that measles is highly contagious and can easily spread through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or simply breathes. If you experience any symptoms of measles, it’s advisable to contact your healthcare provider right away.

Nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 1,046 confirmed measles cases, an increase of 22 from the previous week. In Texas, which faced the largest outbreak earlier this year, 10 new cases have been confirmed, bringing the total to 728.
In North America, three major outbreaks continue. One in Ontario, Canada, has led to 1,795 cases since mid-October, with 173 new cases reported in the last week. Alberta, Canada, reported 538 cases as of Thursday. Furthermore, the Mexican state of Chihuahua has documented 1,578 cases and three related deaths as of Friday, according to the state health ministry.
