Dodgers score an unusual run against Mets due to a missed call when the ball hits a player’s leg.

Judge Misses Key Call in Mets vs. Dodgers Game

It seems the judge overlooked an important moment.

During the second inning of Saturday’s matchup between the Mets and the Dodgers, a play unfolded that had fans buzzing. Los Angeles catcher Dalton was racing to play a ball that appeared to be in a dead zone.

As the ball rolled away past home plate, Mets catcher Lewis Tohren scooped it up and made a throw to first base, which secured a second out for the team.

But a closer look revealed a crucial detail: the ball had actually bounced off Dalton’s shins before it went into play. That should have ruled it a foul ball.

Interestingly, the Mets themselves seemed unsure at first. Both Tohren and pitcher David Peterson hesitated when the ball hit, as if they thought it was dead.

Unfortunately for the Mets, they couldn’t challenge the play because it fell outside the reviewable guidelines. They went on to grab an early lead of 2-0, but the Dodgers quickly responded with five unanswered runs to seal the victory.

Earlier, during Friday’s game, the Mets also faced some confusion regarding another umpire decision. They ended up losing a challenge related to ambiguous rules about when players can advance bases on sacrifice flies.

In another incident, Mets outfielders Tyrone Taylor and Juan Soto nearly collided while Mookie Betts attempted to catch a fly ball. The ball grazed both their gloves before Taylor managed to scoop it up with his bare hands.

Dodgers outfielder, and former Met, Michael Conforto left his base early but was deemed safe as he reached before the catch was made.

During Apple TV’s broadcast, commentators remained puzzled by the situation until former MLB umpire Brian Gorman clarified the rules. “The reason regarding the touch is that if he is juggling the ball, there’s no risk for the runner,” Gorman explained. “As soon as it touches the glove, he’s free to go.”
