Aubrey Plaza Graces Cannes Red Carpet Following Personal Tragedy
Aubrey Plaza made quite an entrance on the red carpet at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, stepping out in a stunning look for her first major event since the passing of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena. This appearance comes nearly five months after his death.
Joining her for the event were co-stars Margaret Qualley and Charlie Day, promoting an offbeat detective comedy directed by the creative duo Ethan Cohen and Tricia Cook.
Baena, known for films like Joshi and A Small Time, tragically died by suicide at their Los Angeles home on January 3rd. He was 47 years old.
The couple had been together since 2011 and quietly married in 2021. Baena penned the screenplay for the film Life After Beth.
In a statement after his death, Plaza described the situation as “an unimaginable tragedy” and expressed gratitude for the support they received, requesting respect for their privacy during this challenging time.
Interestingly, the autopsy report indicated that the couple had been separated at the time of his passing.
For her red carpet look, Plaza chose a delicate cream gown adorned with beads, layered elegantly over structured corsets and matching undergarments.
In I Don’t Do Honey, Qualley portrays Honey, a quirky lesbian detective who seeks to expose a suspicious preacher, alongside Chris Evans. This film carries the offbeat charm typical of Cohen and Cook’s previous work, including Driveaway Doll, which also featured Quarry.
The premiere received an enthusiastic response, with a standing ovation lasting 6.5 minutes. Audiences won’t have to wait long, as I Don’t Do Honey is set to hit theaters on August 22nd.
