During a game on Saturday night, Britney Griner, who plays for the Atlanta Dream Center, voiced her frustration toward WNBA officials after her team defeated the Dallas Wings for the fourth consecutive time. As she prepared for a halftime interview with CBS Sports, Griner expressed dissatisfaction about being fouled throughout the match. She was heard yelling as the team retreated to the locker room.
Griner had a moment of candor, stating, “F–better,” which she later apologized for, acknowledging the viewers at home. Despite the earlier frustrations, she ended the game with 15 points and eight rebounds, contributing to the Dream’s 83-75 victory. Allisha Gray stood out, scoring 27 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
In an interesting note, Griner’s teammate Caitlin Clark was also visibly upset with WNBA referees following a controversial call involving Natasha Cloud. Griner joined the Dream after a significant stint with the Phoenix Mercury, where she spent 12 seasons. This latter period included a challenging time in 2022 when she was arrested in Russia over drug charges, only to be part of a prisoner exchange later.
After her return, Griner played two more seasons with the Mercury, earning recognition as a two-time WNBA defensive player of the year, with an average of 17.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game during her tenure there.
This season, Griner has been averaging 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds across four games in Atlanta.
