Ukrainian President Calls for International Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the global community, especially the United States, to take action against Russia following a series of drone and missile attacks that resulted in the deaths of at least 12 Ukrainians over the weekend.
“Russia pulls us into this war and kills us every day,” Zelensky expressed on social media.
In a tweet, he noted that responders were actively working in over 30 cities and villages in Ukraine after a significant Russian attack, thanking emergency services for their assistance.
Reports indicate that attacks hit areas like Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Mykolaiv. Tragically, in Zhytomyr, three children aged 8, 12, and 17 lost their lives. Additionally, four individuals died around Kyiv as residential buildings were engulfed in flames, and a 70-year-old man was killed in Mykolaiv during a drone strike on an apartment complex.
Zelensky emphasized the need for determination among the United States, European nations, and others advocating for peace. He asserted that without substantial pressure on Russia’s leaders, such horrific acts would continue.
The timing of the attacks was particularly notable as it coincided with a rare moment of diplomatic advancement, highlighted by a significant prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia, involving over 1,000 soldiers and civilians.
Before this exchange, former President Donald Trump lauded the development, expressing his congratulations to both sides on the negotiation.
A Ukrainian official, speaking anonymously, mentioned that Trump was eager to share the news first, while Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov thanked him for his role as Kyiv seeks enhanced U.S. participation in peace discussions.
The Trump administration remains engaged in back-channel communications with both Kyiv and Moscow. Recently, Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly had a two-hour conversation to discuss a proposed 30-day ceasefire initiated by the U.S. Trump described the discussion as “very successful.” While Putin hasn’t yet committed to a final agreement, he has indicated a willingness to consider a memorandum outlining further steps.
