Boulder Terror Attacks Prompt Political Reactions
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer has joined President Trump in denouncing the recent terrorist attacks in Boulder, Colorado.
The Department of Homeland Security has reported that Egyptian nationals, alleged to be involved in the use of flamethrowers and Molotov cocktails against Jewish groups, entered the United States during the Biden administration. Their visas expired in February 2023. Emmer characterized the attacks as a direct consequence of the Democratic Party’s agenda, stating, “Don’t misunderstand this; the horrifying terrorist attacks in Boulder stem from anti-Semitism.” He made these remarks in a statement on Monday.
Emmer also took a moment to commend House Republicans for their support of Jewish Americans, emphasizing the need for strong leadership to combat violent anti-Semitic incidents and to ensure public safety through robust immigration enforcement.
“Under Trump’s guidance, House Republicans are committed to safeguarding the Jewish community while ensuring that illegal immigrants cannot find refuge here,” he added.
In a statement regarding the attacks, Emmer noted, “Today’s targeted terrorist acts remind us of the ongoing struggle against anti-Semitism both domestically and globally. Jackie and I pray for the victims, their families, and the Jewish community. Never again.”
A spokesperson from DHS indicated that one of the attackers, Mohamed Soliman, became illegal after entering the country on a B2 visa in August 2022, which had expired earlier this year. Reports suggest that he shouted “free Palestine” before engaging with pro-Israel demonstrators and allegedly expressed intentions to harm individuals he considered “Zionists.”
The Justice Department announced that Soliman faces federal hate crime charges related to the attacks. Attorney General Pam Bondi assured that the Department would pursue accountability to the fullest extent of the law.
Interestingly, House Democrats did not support a recent vote aimed at enhancing border security measures. This proposal sought to impose stricter civil and criminal penalties on foreigners who overstay their visas.
Democrats have largely resisted GOP initiatives targeting illegal immigration, including the Laken Riley Act. Only a small fraction of them collaborated with Republicans on efforts to detain illegal immigrants facing criminal charges.
Trump has criticized Biden’s border policies, saying that they facilitated the entry of the terrorist suspect. “This highlights the need to maintain secure borders and keep anti-American extremism out of our communities,” he remarked.
In an earlier announcement, the Trump administration boasted of a significant decline in encounters with illegal immigrants at the southern border, claiming an impressive drop of 95% in the past year.
In contrast, House Democrats opted against supporting Trump’s broad tax and spending bill, which included substantial funding for border security initiatives.
