Suspicious fire-causing device discovered on Blue Ridge Parkway close to Asheville

The National Park Service (NPS) Rangers responded to a report of suspicious items seen in the dirt along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, North Carolina, on Sunday. This occurred around 11:45 a.m. near the Folk Art Center, which was evacuated as a safety measure. Emergency crews, including the Asheville Police Bomb Squad, the FBI, and local firefighters, quickly arrived on the scene.

As a precaution, parts of the parkway were temporarily closed. Later, the specialists reported that the item, described as an “improvised burn device,” was safely removed, and there was no immediate threat to the public. The NPS is conducting an ongoing investigation into the matter.
