Former Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Seeking Child Pornography
The FBI has arrested a former Washington, D.C. school teacher for allegedly trying to obtain child pornography from minors, as reported by the Justice Department on Monday.
Devonne Keith Brown, 56, who taught health at Idea Public Charter School, is accused of soliciting explicit materials from a young girl in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Stephen Jensen, assistant director of the FBI’s Washington Field Office, stated, “People who prey on minors to seek the production of CSAM are morally condemned and are responsible for their heinous crimes. The FBI is committed to protecting our children and removing this community of tragedy.”
Brown faces charges for receiving child pornography and appeared in court on Monday. He is currently in custody, awaiting a hearing scheduled for Thursday.
In addition to the pornography allegations, it’s claimed that Brown used CashApp to make payments to minors. One instance involved a $15 request for “snacks,” sent to Brown by a minor.
The unidentified minor told investigators that she had met a man named “Joseph” in a grocery store near her home. She mentioned that he sent money for ice cream and, after engaging in conversation on social media, sent him inappropriate pictures of herself. Additionally, the man allegedly sent her explicit images of women and asked her to recreate them.
Authorities reportedly found sexually graphic images and videos in emails sent to Brown by minors during their investigation.
The Charter School expressed profound concern regarding the allegations against Brown, affirming their commitment to student safety and cooperation with law enforcement.
According to the school, “This individual is no longer employed by the school. Pupil safety and well-being are our number one priority. We are fully working with law enforcement to support ongoing investigations. There are no indications that students are directly involved based on the information available now.”
