Pine Hill, N.J. – Key Support for Ciattarelli as Campaign Intensifies
With just a week left before an important election in New Jersey, Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli is rallying support from high-profile GOP figures.
President Donald Trump reached out, urging constituents to vote for Ciattarelli, describing him as “the true champion of the people of your state. He’s my friend and he has been a real success story.” This endorsement came just days before early voting was set to begin.
Two weeks prior, Trump had also shown his support for Ciattarelli, who emphasized the significance of this backing in an interview. “That’s a real big deal,” he said while meeting local GOP leaders at Trump National Golf Club in South Jersey, adding that Trump is quite popular in the state.
Facing Competition
Former state legislator Ciattarelli is making his third attempt to secure the governorship. He previously missed out on the GOP nomination in 2017 and narrowly lost to Democrat incumbent Phil Murphy in 2021, a race decided by just three points.
This time around, polling indicates that Ciattarelli is the frontrunner for the Republican nomination, especially following Murphy’s successor being unable to run due to term limits.
Another candidate, Bill Spadea, has also been vocal about their shared support for Trump, though he expressed disappointment over Trump’s endorsement of Ciattarelli. “I wanted the President’s support, but it seems he backed the polls instead of the plan,” Spadea noted.
In a separate interview, Spadea emphasized his long-standing support for Trump, claiming he embodies conservative values that resonate with the party.
Ciattarelli, meanwhile, described his strategy for the general election, stating that Trump’s support provides him with an advantage in fundraising and campaign efforts. “We’ve raised more money than the other candidates combined,” he pointed out, asserting that this has allowed him to effectively dominate the advertising space.
Impressions from Voters
Despite Spadea’s criticisms regarding Ciattarelli’s connection to Trump, he mentioned that many Trump supporters are feeling discontented about the endorsement. “Our supporters are galvanized,” he added, stating that Trump’s backing of Ciattarelli might even energize their campaign efforts.
Ciattarelli highlighted the distinct political landscape of New Jersey, noting that while it leans blue, Republicans have historically achieved success in gubernatorial races. “It’s not as one-sided as people think,” he remarked, citing past victories in six out of the last eleven governor races.
As the election date approaches, attention will focus on New Jersey’s governance race, which is critical as it could signal changes in political tides following the presidential election year.
“I believe we’re going to send a strong message that New Jersey can and will lean Republican this year,” Ciattarelli concluded.
