Tragic Incident Involving “King of the Hill” Actor Jonathan Joss
Actor Jonathan Joss, who played John Redcorn in “King of the Hill,” seemed to be going through tough times financially shortly before his death, as indicated by a recent social media post.
He had been in Austin for a weekend event that featured a “Q&A session and Meet & Greet,” where attendees had the chance to buy signed photos at a deal of three for $25, according to reports.
While riding a Greyhound bus during the event, the 59-year-old expressed his struggles on video, saying, “When I was 36, I didn’t need this kind of crap… I’m almost 60 years old, so I have to get some money.”
After the event, attendees were invited to “party with John Redcorn,” but Joss took to Facebook to share his dilemma, asking for help getting home as he felt abandoned by his former manager.
“Unfortunately, my former manager didn’t help with transportation to get back to San Antonio, which was his plan. Now I’m ghosted,” he lamented on Sunday afternoon.
Tragically, later that night, Joss was shot outside his home in San Antonio. His husband, Tristan Caen de Gonzalez, claimed the attack was homophobic, but police asserted there was no evidence supporting that allegation.
In the weeks leading up to this tragic event, Joss had faced various struggles. He was recently removed from a “King of the Hill” panel for speaking out during a Q&A session, expressing his dissatisfaction with his financial situation: “There’s a hole in my pocket where I need money.”
He also referenced an incident back in February in which his home was damaged by fire. While Joss claimed it was a hate crime, his husband suggested it was a result of misusing a barbecue grill during a power outage, leading to a tragic accident that cost the lives of three pet dogs and severely damaged their house.
Despite some neighbors reporting harassment due to their sexuality, others described Joss and his husband as “unstable” neighbors. Local authorities indicated they had been called to their residence at least 40 times since January 2024 for welfare checks and disputes.
On the day of the shooting, Joss reportedly interacted with his neighbors before the incident occurred, which his husband recounted involved an argument. Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, their 56-year-old neighbor, was arrested shortly after the incident, reportedly admitting to police, “I shot him.”
The loss of Joss has deeply affected those who worked alongside him. Actor Nick Offerman shared his sorrow, noting, “The cast has been texting together about it all day, and we’re just heartbroken. Jonathan was a very sweet guy, and it’s a terrible tragedy.”
