Unexpected Alliance Over New Spending Bill
It’s certainly surprising to see Texas Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett and Elon Musk on the same side of an issue. Both have taken to X to express their discontent with the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Crockett, known for her candid opinions, seemed genuinely taken aback by this unlikely partnership.
“What a wild day when I’m agreeing with Elon! Mark your calendars, folks! This Reconciliation bill is TRASH!” she tweeted from her personal account. “Just to remember—no Democrats backed it, but at least two Republicans had the courage to oppose it in the House! We can do better for America!”
Meanwhile, Musk, who has recently stepped away from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been quite vocal on social media about the bill.
A new spending bill should be drafted that doesn’t massively grow the deficit and increase the debt ceiling by 5 TRILLION DOLLARS

He urged his followers to take action. “Call your Senator, Call your Congressman,” he tweeted. “Bankrupting America is NOT ok! KILL the BILL.”
In another tweet, Musk described the spending bill as a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill” that he deemed a “disgusting abomination.” He continued to highlight that it would significantly swell the already enormous budget deficit and saddle citizens with insurmountable debt.
Musk’s political stances have shifted over the years; not long ago, he was celebrated by liberals, but his comments about the “woke mind virus” took him out of favor with some. His recent actions may suggest a change in how he aligns politically, or at least how he’s perceived in the political landscape.
Crockett and Musk aren’t the only voices raised against the One Big Beautiful Bill. This contentious bill barely passed the House with just one vote and reportedly gained support from some members who hadn’t fully read it.
For instance, Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia confessed on X that she was unaware of a controversial section in the bill. “Full transparency, I did not know about this section on pages 278-279 of the [One Big Beautiful Bill] that strips states of the right to make laws or regulate [Artificial Intelligence] for 10 years,” she wrote. “I am adamantly OPPOSED to this and it is a violation of state rights. I would have voted NO had I known this was in there.”

Given that the bill spans over a thousand pages, it feels reasonable to expect that legislators at least skim through it before making decisions that affect the rest of us.
