Red Sox’s Ceddanne Rafaela Delivers Walk-Off Win Against Angels

Ceddanne Rafaela might consider himself fortunate to play at Fenway Park, especially after his performance on Wednesday afternoon. The Boston Red Sox edged out the Los Angeles Angels in an exciting game, winning 11-9.

Rafaela stepped up to the plate and faced a 97-mile-per-hour fastball, swinging for the right field line. With a home run just clearing Pesky’s pole, what unfolded was a thrilling walk-off two-run homer. The ball traveled merely 308 feet—it’s the shortest walk-off home run recorded in the Statcast era, which dates back to 2015. I mean, at Fenway, that’s pretty much expected.

In fact, all three of the shortest home runs tracked by Statcast have taken place at Fenway Park, and Rafaela’s shot ranks as the third shortest ever.

The game itself was quite the rollercoaster. The Angels held leads at 4-0, 7-5, 8-7, and 9-8, but couldn’t maintain their advantage. Rafael Devers played a key role, ultimately tying the game in the eighth inning with a lucky bounce that got through the gloves of two fielders. As it stands, the Angels are now 28-33 while the Red Sox improved to 30-34.

Throughout the game, Los Angeles managed to respond each time Boston scored, creating a back-and-forth atmosphere. However, in the ninth, after walking Mike Trout, Cooper Sriswell took the mound and retired the next three batters. This gave Boston the chance they needed to seal the game.

Interestingly, Pesky’s pole, named after Johnny Pesky, might’ve played its role once more in shaping a memorable victory.
