Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s View on Republican Opposition
Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas stated on Tuesday that if conservatives had the power to enslave people like her, what they stand against is a modern version of old hatreds.
She suggested that the current Republican critiques reflect a revival of the spiritual underpinnings of slavery and separation. “I find it quite straightforward to dedicate myself to serving everyone and doing the right things daily, particularly since I recognize that there’s a historical context to our situation,” she shared on the “Outlaws” podcast. “For some reason, remnants of our past still bind us with systemic chains we’re battling against, yet we have managed to break free from physical ones.”
Crockett emphasized that examining the nation’s history is crucial for understanding these challenges.
She remarked, “I think about how there was this reasoning that treated us as if we didn’t bleed like they do—we are not fundamentally different. These attacks, though they seem fresh, are, in fact, old and tired. I see them whether we reference the 1950s or 2025; hatred has been consistent.”
As she pondered the future, Crockett noted that Republicans might face significant backlash, revealing a “superpower” from those like herself. “With me in the picture, we’ve demonstrated resilience. We’ve accomplished considerable things despite them,” she stated. “As we move into the next phase, after this era filled with hate, there’s an opportunity to reestablish what it means to be normal again.”
At one point during the podcast, Madison, the host, expressed her fears as a black trans woman in contemporary America, asking lawmakers about the current state of affairs. “I often say, ‘They hate you because they can’t be you.’ The disdain they direct towards you reflects their awareness of our beauty. Attempting to diminish us or convince us of our worthlessness only underscores the need for bravery,” she said.
