DiJonai Carrington responds to fans labeling her a 'dirty player' in the WNBA

Dallas Wings player Dehonai Carrington addressed fans who have accused him of playing “dirty” in a recent social media post. He expressed, “You all think I’m a very dirty player. If I know basketball, I’m playing hard and never giving up,” along with heart emojis.

This message came just a day after the Wings faced the Seattle Storm. Carrington received a Fragrant-1 foul late in the game when he collided with Seattle’s Skyler Diggins while blocking a shot. After the incident, Carrington was seen sitting on the bench with his eyes closed.

Almost a week earlier, Carrington reacted to a different incident where he shouted at a referee during a game against the Chicago Sky. He later claimed that the need for security was a “minor attack” on him. He defended himself against critics in the past, emphasizing how some new fans of the league were particularly harsh in their judgments. During a podcast, he mentioned, “They really talk too much. They think it’s just trolling, but it’s real.”

Carrington also commented on criticism regarding her appearance, referencing her blonde hair and saying, “I hate when people ask why I have blonde hair. I have black eyebrows and hair… but I’m still a natural blonde.”

Last season, Carrington faced backlash after a confrontation with Caitlin Clark during the playoffs. After an incident that resulted in Clark getting hurt, she laughed it off with her teammate Marina Mabry, which added more fuel to the fire. Carrington later clarified that she didn’t intentionally harm Clark, although some controversy did follow her regarding it.

In late August, Carrington made a controversial post about the Indiana Fever fans, indicating they could be troublesome. She has also faced scrutiny for her political expressions, particularly when she wore a shirt that criticized former President Trump last January.

“We’re ensuring some policies are already in place. The WNBA is at the forefront of many of these movements,” Carrington stated, highlighting the importance of women’s and LGBTQ rights in today’s society.
