Luigi Mangione’s Manifesto and the Killing of UHC CEO Brian Thompson
Recent court documents have unveiled Luigi Mangione’s manifesto, which explains his motives for allegedly killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of United Healthcare, according to the New York Post.
The document, referred to as The Red Spiral Notebook, was included in a filing by New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Within it, Mangione detailed his reasoning behind the fatal act.
He wrote, “So, say you want to rebel against the deadly, greedy fueled health insurance cartel. Do you bomb the headquarters? No. Bomb = Terrorism.” Mangione also mentioned, “I should wak it.” [sic] He drew a distinction between targeted actions and indiscriminate bombings, asserting that the former would be more precise and not endanger innocent people.
Mangione expressed some relief for not resorting to bombing tactics, claiming he had “learned more about UHC.” He seemed to take particular aim at the CEO, describing Thompson in derogatory terms.
Reportedly, the alleged murderer also praised Ted Kaczynski, known as the Unabomber, in the same manifesto.
This revelation follows a legal motion from Mangione’s defense team, which is seeking to contest the charges against him, including his not guilty pleas on both state and federal levels.
Surveillance footage captured an assailant, described as masked, shooting Thompson from behind during an investor meeting on December 4th. Mangione was arrested five days later at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police found a handwritten document linking him to the crime.
On April 1, it was announced by Attorney General Pam Bondy that the state would pursue the death penalty against Mangione. He faces various charges, such as stalking and firearm-related murder.
Mangione’s next court hearing is scheduled for December 5th.
