Trump Responds to Biden’s Autopen Investigation Remarks

On June 5, 2025, former President Donald Trump expressed his thoughts regarding actions during Joe Biden’s presidency, suggesting that Biden didn’t fully grasp what was happening at the time. Trump’s comments came in response to Biden’s remarks about the ongoing autopen investigation.

During discussions in the Oval Office with German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz, Trump stated, “Biden was not an advocate for open borders, nor did he support universal transgender rights or the participation of men in women’s sports.” He seemed to imply that Biden’s values had shifted, saying, “All these fundamental changes… I think he was really out of touch.”

Trump went on to clarify his stance, asserting, “Anyone using an autopen is, in a sense, acting contrary to presidential norms. It’s fundamentally wrong and reflects poorly on our country.” He recently sent a memo to the Department of Justice, urging an investigation into whether aides in the Biden administration misled the public about Biden’s mental state while using an autopen for key actions.

In a notable response, Biden dismissed Trump’s memo as “silly,” framing it as a distraction created by the GOP. He emphasized that during his presidency, decisions regarding pardons and executive orders were made carefully and wisely.

Trump further argued that the utilization of an autopen signifies one of the most significant political conspiracies in American history, alleging that it obscures Biden’s cognitive decline. He claimed that the public was kept unaware of how these signatures were used, asserting, “When someone dedicates years of their life to public service, they deserve an authentic signature, not an automatic one.”

In his remarks, Trump also mentioned that autopen signatures are distinguishable from true handwritten signatures, noting the presence of small pinholes left in the paper. “It’s rather disrespectful,” he added, “to resort to autopens for letters, especially when so many people write in. Authenticity matters.”

The conversation around Biden’s pardon process and the alleged misuse of autopens sparked further debate, particularly as Trump claimed the signatures related to significant legal actions were not valid because they originated from an autopen mechanism.

Investigations initiated by the Conservative Heritage Foundation revealed that Biden’s use of the autopen raised questions about who was truly approving important documents, suggesting that aides may have played a larger role than previously thought.
