Trump Receives Grandfather’s Birth Certificate from German Prime Minister

During a noteworthy in-person meeting at the White House on Thursday, German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz gifted former President Donald Trump a golden-framed copy of his grandfather’s birth certificate.

This lavish gift, adorned in gold and reminiscent of the president’s iconic oval décor, paid homage to Friedrich Trump, who was born in Calstadt, Germany, in 1869 before relocating to the United States.

Trump responded with a touch of humor, stating, “It’s serious German,” while acknowledging the meaningful gesture.

Expressing his appreciation, Trump added, “Thank you. It’s beautiful. Thank you very much. It’s amazing. We’ll put it in a place of honor.”

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Trump has received unique gifts from world leaders. He was previously presented with a “golden popea” by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and a golden samurai helmet from Japanese Prime Minister Isgar.

The meeting between Trump and Merz, held in front of a gathering of reporters and officials, took a more controversial turn when Trump addressed conservative politicians about D-Day. He remarked that it “is not a comfortable day,” while discussing the significance of freeing Normandy on June 6, 1944.

These unusual comments arose amidst their dialogue regarding the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“Remember that tomorrow is June 6th,” Merz emphasized, noting the 81st anniversary of the World War II D-Day landings.

Trump interjected during the conversation, saying, “In the long run, Mr. President, this was my liberation from the Nazi dictatorship,” to which Merz replied with more historical context.

Trump then suggested that the United States is strategically positioned to contribute to ending the war, stating, “So let’s talk about what we can do together.”

In a rather unexpected comparison, Trump likened Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to children arguing on a playground.
