White House Sources Share Thoughts on Major Split, Disclose What Pushed Elon Over the Edge

Elon Musk and Trump White House Tensions Reach a Breaking Point

A source within the White House informed the Daily Caller on Thursday that Elon Musk’s disappointment over his NASA nomination was the final straw in a series of ongoing conflicts with the Trump administration.

This tension escalated after Musk openly criticized Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” for an extended period. In response, Trump accused Musk of suffering from what he termed “crazy syndrome.” This outburst led to more public accusations, including demands for the president’s impeachment and claims regarding the Epstein File.

The insider suggested that Musk had been overly aggressive in his criticisms, even attempting to position himself as a figure of authority within the administration, but felt sidelined.

Key inquiries had emerged from agencies like the IRS and CIA, and notably from NASA’s leadership as well. Just before any significant public fallout, Trump revoked the appointment of Musk’s ally, Jared Isakumen, which reportedly contributed to the growing tensions.

Musk frequently interacted with White House officials, including Presidential Affairs Director Sergio Go, but he often challenged their policy decisions.

Though Musk had been distanced from the State Department by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, sources indicated that his access to military plans at the Pentagon was also restricted.

In March, the New York Times reported that Musk was supposed to receive a briefing at the Pentagon regarding military strategies in the event of a conflict with China, though this plan was ultimately dismissed by the administration.

According to sources, Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staff had been working at the Pentagon leading up to the briefing, but this news seemed to deepen the rift between Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegses.

“This has been a long time coming. The White House isn’t fond of Elon; some appreciate Doge, but no one enjoys having him around causing disturbances,” a source said.

As tensions mounted, Musk publicly criticized Trump’s exclusion of EV tax credits from the “Big Beautiful Bill,” disputing Trump’s claims about his stance on the issue. Despite Musk’s previous opposition to the credits, insiders claimed he urged House Speaker Mike Johnson to include them in the bill.

Meanwhile, the DOGE team was instructed to proceed with standard operations.

Musk remarked, “I’ve just been hanging out at Doge HQ. It’s pretty empty around here.” His demeanor suggested he was feeling quite discouraged.

Some White House officials remained focused on advancing Trump’s agenda, insisting that Musk’s outbursts wouldn’t derail their efforts. However, it was noted that Musk had become increasingly erratic, raising concerns among staff members.

A few weeks ago, Musk appeared isolated outside the White House, prompting one staffer to question what was amiss as he collected praise for his government contributions.

Musk seemed disheartened, and this left staff members feeling uneasy. “What happened here?” they wondered, before the larger issues at play came to light.
