The buzz is growing around the possibility of the Falcons trading Kyle Pitts.
Adam Schefter from ESPN mentioned on a recent episode of the “Adam Schefter Podcast” that while Atlanta hasn’t actively started moving towards a trade, they’re definitely open to discussing offers for the talented tight end.
“Teams have reached out to the Falcons about Kyle Pitts,” Schefter noted. “I’m not sure the Falcons are keen to deal him, but they’re not shutting down inquiries either. If a team offers enough, they might be inclined to part with their former top-five draft pick,” he added.
Pitts was drafted fourth overall by the Falcons in the 2021 NFL Draft, coming out of Florida with a lot of potential and high hopes.
After an impressive senior season, he gained national attention and ranked among the top ten in the Heisman voting.
He made a splash in his rookie year, earning a Pro Bowl selection and racking up over 1,000 receiving yards. But unfortunately, his subsequent seasons didn’t quite match that initial success, with less impressive stats.
Pitts has shown moments of brilliance, but it seems that Atlanta hasn’t fully tapped into his capabilities. A change of environment might be beneficial for the 24-year-old.
Currently, he’s in the last year of his contract and will hit free agency in the 2026 offseason.
“The challenge is that he carries an $11 million salary this year,” Schefter pointed out. “I don’t think there are many teams eager to pay that for what he offers right now.”
This situation bears some resemblance to the ongoing saga with Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins, who may also be in trade talks. Cousins has a hefty contract, which complicates any potential moves Atlanta might consider in offloading Pitts.
