Johnson Urges Reconciliation Between Trump and Musk

Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, expressed hope that former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk would mend their differences following a public squabble regarding the party’s “one big beautiful bill.”

During a press briefing, Johnson mentioned that he had met with Trump in the Oval Office not long before the tensions escalated. “He was surprised and frankly disappointed by Elon’s sudden opposition,” Johnson recounted.

He added, “I truly believe in red, and if they can work things out, it could benefit both the party and the nation.” Afterward, Johnson seemed to address Musk indirectly, criticizing him for his remarks against Trump.

Johnson emphasized Trump’s pivotal role as the leader of the party, describing him as perhaps the most significant political figure of this generation. “His leadership has made a substantial impact,” he stated.

When asked whether he had communicated with Musk recently, Johnson was hesitant and stated, “We exchanged some texts, but I’d rather keep that private.” He also remarked that fellow Republicans were quite taken aback by Musk’s criticisms, especially as he is one of the wealthiest individuals globally.

Despite the upheaval, Johnson remained optimistic. “Our members are quite resolute. We are on track to pass this legislation ahead of the deadline,” he noted.

Meanwhile, White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt commented on Johnson’s call for unity regarding the ongoing situation.

In a separate interview, Trump voiced his disinterest in reconciling with Musk, dismissing worries about Musk potentially starting a third-party movement. “Elon has completely lost it,” Trump remarked.

Musk, in turn, accused the Republicans of not making enough efforts to reduce federal spending in a budget proposal that aims to align with Trump’s priorities, including tax cuts and immigration reform.
