Brad Marchand's mother reacts excitedly after his impressive performance in Game 2 as a Panthers player gives a playful reply.

In the midst of disappointed Oilers supporters, Lynn Marchand, mother of player Brad Marchand, stood out.

Having just witnessed her son score the winning goal for the Panthers, clinching a 5-4 victory in the Stanley Cup final, she couldn’t contain her excitement, cheering, “Way to go, Blood.”

Lynn embodies the passionate hockey mom role.

After the game, Brad remarked, “She’s the kind of person you might need to quiet down a bit. She gets really into it. My parents have always been incredibly supportive; I think that’s a big reason they come to these games. It’s about making memories together, after all.”

There was certainly enough motivation for Lynn to be in Edmonton for the match on Friday night, particularly since her son’s goal could be a pivotal moment for the Panthers.

The defending champions faced a tough start, losing Game 1 in overtime, with delays in Game 2 as they fell behind 1-0 and 3-2 before briefly leading 4-3. However, disaster struck in the final minute when the Oilers scored, pushing the game into overtime and shifting the momentum.

Earlier, Marchand had put the Panthers ahead 4-3 with a goal in the second period during overtime, finding the net on a breakaway.

“Honestly, I was just trying to get the puck in,” Marchand shared with the TNT crew. “I can’t even recall what I did.”

Speaking to reporters later, he reflected on the feeling of triumph as his teammates celebrated around him, while Lynn cheered from the stands at Rogers Place.

The series will head to Sunrise, Florida, for the next two games, with Game 3 set to begin at 8 PM on Monday.

Maybe more celebrations are on the horizon for Brad and Lynn.

“He’s been amazing for us this playoff season, scoring critical goals during crucial moments,” said teammate Sam Bennett. “This one was definitely a highlight.”
