Red Sox pitcher expresses disappointment in his performance following heavy loss to Yankees

Walker Buehler Struggles in Start Against Yankees

Walker Buehler’s season with the Boston Red Sox has been a bit rocky, to say the least. During his tenth start on Friday at Yankee Stadium, he faced a significant challenge, giving up five runs and only completing two innings. It’s fair to say that Buehler and the other pitchers seem to be hitting a rough patch this year.

The game concluded with the Yankees taking a 9-6 victory over their rivals from the AL East.

Buehler, who previously spent eight years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has had quite the journey. He wrapped up his time there with a memorable performance in Game 5 of the World Series, helping his team clinch their second championship in five years.

This season, Buehler signed a significant one-year deal with the Red Sox, but his recent performance has drawn strong criticism from him. “This organization has brought a lot of faith this offseason. I’m embarrassed for us,” he reflected.

After allowing those five runs, Buehler’s ERA has jumped to 5.18. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022, which sidelined him for all of 2023. While he struggled through much of the 2024 season, he did manage to shine during the Dodgers’ postseason run, providing some encouraging innings in both the NLCS and the World Series.

In the first inning, Yankees’ infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a three-run homer against Buehler, followed by an RBI single, showcasing the difficulties Buehler faced that day.

Currently, Buehler’s overall record stands at 4-4, but he has yet to secure a win in his last three games. With this loss, the Red Sox’s record slipped to 30-35, placing them fourth in the AL East standings.
