It all happened pretty quickly.
Brittany Renner, known from “Basketball Wives,” revealed on Saturday that she has divorced rapper Kevin Gates after just 52 days of marriage.
“We tied the knot on April 6th and ended things on May 28th,” Renner, 33, mentioned during an appearance on a Los Angeles radio show.
She explained how Islam has a 90-day period for waiting and assessing things, including pregnancy. “Basically, the law requires you to remain married for those 90 days, which means no dating during that time,” she said.
Renner remarked, “I think Islam has simplified my life. Honestly, I don’t foresee myself getting married again; it seems like very few people are married these days. This was a useful 90-day pause for me to focus on myself.”
She expressed confidence in her choices, saying she “followed her heart” and felt no shame about her relationship with Gates.
“Many people hold back, even in relationships,” she noted. “But if you give your all, you eventually find peace either way.” There’s something liberating, I suppose, about that kind of openness.
Renner shared her earlier admiration for Gates during an interview in early May, stating, “I’m literally with someone I’ve always dreamed of.” She gushed about the surreal experience of waking up next to him.
Meanwhile, Gates mentioned they focus on living in the moment, saying, “When we think too far ahead, we lose sight of now. We’re having fun and caring for one another right now.”
When asked about the future, she replied, “That’s not my concern at the moment.”
Renner has a four-year-old son with PJ Washington from the Dallas Mavericks and was part of the “Basketball Wives” Season 11 cast in 2023.
