Jalen Ramsey’s Absence from Dolphins’ Minicamp
Jalen Ramsey is absent from the Dolphins’ minicamp that kicked off this week. The ongoing discussions around potential trades for the cornerback continue between his representatives and the team.
The Dolphins and Ramsey have mutually agreed to part ways, yet a deal has yet to materialize. Consequently, Ramsey has chosen not to attend the mandatory minicamp this week, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Sunday.
According to NFL insiders, Ramsey is expected to remain detached from the team until a resolution is found.
As a former All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler, Ramsey has spent the last two seasons with the Dolphins, participating in all 17 games last season.
With the organization gearing up for the 2025 season, it seems that both Ramsey and the team are ready to move on.
When asked about the situation last week, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel indicated that he wasn’t particularly focused on it. He noted, “I don’t check in every day. Nothing has changed from my perspective. I’ll let Chris [Grier, the general manager] handle that while I focus on coaching with enthusiasm.”
Ramsey had signed a three-year, $72.3 million extension that made him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. Teams might be willing to take on his substantial contract, which includes a $16.6 million cap hit for the upcoming season.
Last season, Ramsey did not make the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2016, recording 60 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, and 11 passes defended.
Selected fifth overall in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Jaguars, Ramsey played there until a mid-season trade to the Rams in 2019. He then moved to Miami in the 2023 offseason.
