Skydiving Plane Crash in Tennessee Injures Several

A skydiving plane crashed in Tennessee on Sunday afternoon, leading to multiple injuries, as reported by the Tarahoma Police Department.

The aircraft took off from Tarahoma Regional Airport around 12:30 PM but crashed shortly thereafter, according to Community Engagement Officer Lyle Russell.

At the time of the incident, there were 20 individuals on the plane, including the crew.

“It’s happening now: Coffee County – THP troopers are supporting @tullahomapd at the scene of a plane crash on Old Shelbyville Road,” the Tennessee Highway Patrol shared on X.

During a press conference, officials mentioned that the plane encountered “unknown issues” right after takeoff, stating it “had an impact on trees and terrain.”

Three individuals were airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, while one was transported by ground due to more serious injuries, Russell noted.

First responders treated others with minor injuries at the scene.

Fortunately, there have been no fatalities reported at this time.

“We are grateful for the limited number of injuries and our hearts and minds are with those who have experienced this accident and their future recovery,” officials conveyed during the press conference.

The sheriff’s office identified the skydiving plane as a DeHavilland DH-6 twin otter.

They also mentioned that the airport and surrounding ground facilities were unharmed, with no injuries reported on the ground.

Authorities confirmed that this is an active scene and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Residents are advised to steer clear of the area as the investigation unfolds.

The FAA is on-site and collaborating with local airport officials, with the National Traffic Safety Board (NTSB) set to lead the investigation.
