The former NBA All-Star faced a tense situation with fans after being ejected from a game in Puerto Rico. DeMarcus Cousins was playing for Mets de Guaynabo in the Baroncesto Superior Nacional when he received a dismissal on Monday night, leading to a near confrontation with other players.
As he exited the court, some fans shouted at him while others cheered. But a few took it further—one fan, for instance, displayed a middle finger to Cousins, who, in an impulsive moment, reached out towards him.
Things escalated when that fan then raised a drink in Cousins’ direction and threw it at him, prompting several others to join in the taunting. Earlier in the game, another fan responded to Cousins’ play with a mock crying gesture, to which Cousins reacted inappropriately, leading to a scuffle that required some separation between him and the crowd.
Unfortunately for Cousins, his team, Mets de Guaynabo, lost the match to Vaqueros de Bayamon with a score of 101-92.
Cousins, drafted fifth overall in 2010, hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2021-22 season, having been a strong contender early in his career with averages of 25.2 points and 11.9 rebounds from 2014 to 2018 while with teams like the Sacramento Kings and the New Orleans Pelicans.
Following a short stint with the Golden State Warriors in 2018-19, injuries plagued him, leading to a missed entire season. Over recent years, he has struggled to find consistent playing time, starting only 18 of the last 89 games played.
