Body of Missing Navy Seaman Found in Norfolk

On Thursday, Navy officials discovered a body in a forested area in Norfolk, Virginia, confirming that the remains belong to Navy Seaman Angelina Recendis, who had been reported missing.

The 21-year-old was last seen at her barracks on May 29 around 10 PM, as reported by the Virginia State Police and the Navy Criminal Investigation Bureau (NCIS).

The NCIS stated that a Navy sailor has been placed in pretrial confinement in relation to Resendiz’s death, with pending charges under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

In a statement, NCIS shared that they have worked closely with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Norfolk Police and Virginia State Police, to investigate the circumstances surrounding Resendiz’s disappearance.

Disappearance Raises Concerns

NCIS emphasized their commitment to uncovering the details of Seaman Resendiz’s tragic death, aiming for accountability and justice.

Local authorities have expressed serious concerns regarding her health and safety since she went missing.

Castle Esmeralda, Resendiz’s mother from Texas, described her daughter as “loving” and “kind.” According to her, Resendiz worked as a culinary expert in the Navy.

Castle mentioned how unusual it was for Resendiz not to respond to calls or texts from family members.

“She had a 400-day streak on Snapchat. She communicated with someone every day,” Castle said, highlighting just how unusual it was for her daughter to go silent.

Resendiz was reported missing after failing to show up for work. Castle noted that it was troubling for them, stating, “She disappeared without a trace since Thursday. It’s so hard to inform others that she is missing.”

While the investigation is ongoing, NCIS has stated that they won’t be revealing any further details at this time, expressing the need for respect for the investigative process.
