DeChambeau Speaks Ahead of US Open
Oakmont, Pa. — Bryson DeChambeau, the defending champion, made his presence known on Tuesday as the excitement builds for this week’s US Open.
He opened up about various topics, particularly mentioning that his contract with LIV Golf is set to expire next year. “We’re looking to negotiate at the end of the year. I’m really looking forward to it,” DeChambeau shared. “They recognize my worth, and I see potential in what they bring to the table. I think we can reach a mutually beneficial outcome. I believe LIV has a bright future.”
He expressed optimism regarding the growth of team golf. “Regardless of what people think, I see the commercial viability. TGL is evolving, making progress, and I believe there’s a sustainable model there.”
DeChambeau emphasized his recognition of his value in the sport, suggesting he understands what LIV offers. “It’s exciting to think about the future of golf and how it might unfold,” he added.
Among the various topics, DeChambeau also touched on his ongoing pursuit of the ideal equipment. Following the PGA Championship, he hinted at using new clubs at Oakmont, especially since he experienced issues with his irons previously.
“I tweaked my equipment a bit, and I hope that helps reduce the hooks I’ve been experiencing,” he said, noting that adjustments seem promising. The topic of golf balls also came up, and he remarked, “It’s a complex issue and still in progress. There are interesting options I’m looking to test out this year.”
“We’re eager to keep researching, experimenting, and refining. My goal is to reach another level in my game, or at least that’s the plan,” he continued.
When asked what he would pursue outside of golf, DeChambeau mentioned his interest in research. “I’d probably be in the lab,” he said. “Currently, I’m utilizing Sportsbox AI, focusing on how AI integrates with biomechanics, and examining body mechanics for consistent performance.”
As a player who has changed the game, he was queried about whether any other players sought his advice on creating their platforms. “Phil Mickelson is one who has shown interest,” he responded. “He views it as a viable path for commercialization and engagement, and he has his own series that illustrates the educational aspect.”
“It’s amusing how we share insights, especially regarding short games and techniques from bunkers,” DeChambeau concluded with a smile.
