New reports detail a tragic situation involving an Indian bride who was allegedly murdered shortly before the couple vanished during their honeymoon.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, 25, turned herself in on Monday, about a week after her husband was found dead with a slit throat in a wooded area of Meghalaya on June 2.
A 30-year-old man with an amputated limb also reported that his wallet, gold ring, and chain were missing.
Raghuvanshi, who wed her husband Bo in an arranged ceremony in Indore on May 11, mentioned hiring four men to commit a violent act.
“Their marriage had been arranged four months prior, and they seemed happy. There were no arguments between them before or after the wedding,” said Vipin Ragvansi, Raja’s brother.
“If Sonam is guilty, it should be made clear, and she deserves punishment.”
The newlyweds left for their honeymoon on May 20, but when they didn’t return for four days, both families contacted the authorities, leading to a search by police, disaster teams, and local residents.
Raja’s body was discovered within a week, prompting the couple’s families to publicly criticize law enforcement and officials for a lack of investigation into both the murder and Sonam’s whereabouts.
Sonam was approached by police on Sunday after arriving at a restaurant and contacting her brother, who then notified the authorities.
Three other suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder, but one remains at large, according to police statements.
Raja’s father, who hasn’t spoken to his daughter, is insisting on her innocence, suggesting she “somehow escaped her captors” and accusing the police of fabricating the story.
Conversely, Raja’s brothers, who have been vocal about their disappointment with law enforcement, seem to support the claims against their sister-in-law.
“I tend to believe that the Meghalaya government isn’t lying now,” one brother stated.
Officials have expressed frustration over the families’ claims during the investigation, even hinting at the possibility of legal action due to “defamation.”
In response, Minister Alexander Laru Hek commented on Monday, saying, “The truth has emerged. Our police performed admirably, managing to apprehend the suspect within seven days.”
