9-1-1: Lone Star Updates
9-1-1: Lone Star might have wrapped up after five seasons earlier this year, but it seems Rob Lowe may not have completely closed the door on Captain Owen Strand just yet.
A keen 9-1-1 fan recently pointed out something interesting about Chad Lowe, Rob’s brother, who also portrayed his on-screen brother in 9-1-1: Lone Star. ABC confirmed that the show has been cancelled, but when Rob caught up with Chad about his partnership with Atkins, he revealed that Chad is an executive producer and set to direct a spin-off series.
When asked whether he might reprise his role as Owen Strand, Rob joked, “I really need to check with my brother Chad on that one.” It’s worth noting that Rob co-created and starred in the Netflix series Unstable, which was also cancelled after two seasons alongside his son, John Owen Lowe.
Chad, who is involved with 9-1-1: Nashville, had some input in shaping Rob’s character, Robert Strand. Rob mentioned that he’s just waiting for a call regarding 9-1-1: Lone Star and added, “Well, I did hire him, so I think it’s only fair he gives me a call back.”
That being said, the details about 9-1-1: Nashville are still a bit murky, and the official premiere date for Autumn 2025 hasn’t been set. However, we do know that Chris O’Donnell will star as Don Sharpe, a captain and rodeo rider managing a fire station with his son. Fans of Lone Star may find that storyline familiar. Other cast members will include Jessica Capshaw from Grey’s Anatomy, Leanne Rimes, Kimberly Williams Paisley, Haley Kilgore, Michael Provost, Juanni Ferris, and influencer Hunter McVay.
It remains unclear how Rob’s character, Owen, might connect to Nashville. Given that Lone Star has finished, who knows, maybe an appearance is possible in some way? Sadly though, the same cannot be said for 9-1-1’s Captain Bobby Nash, played by Peter Krause, who met an unexpected end during the eighth season.
Rob shared that Klaus is “irreplaceable” in the series but suggested that the showrunner, Tim Minear, might be making a mistake by saying farewell to such a treasured character.
“It’s like a baseball team,” he compared. “You know? It’s what the Pittsburgh Pirates do; sometimes they trade their star player, and I wonder if that’s the right move. Sometimes you need to shake things up, or the show gradually fades away. So they’ve shaken it, and I’m optimistic about it.”
Fans will just have to wait and see if the Lowe brothers will cross paths again in 9-1-1: Nashville. There’s buzz about possible crossovers with the original series as the hype continues for the upcoming spin-offs. 9-1-1 Season 8 is currently available for streaming on Hulu, while 9-1-1: Nashville is expected to debut in the fall of 2025.
