Royal family from the Netherlands provides health update following Princess Catharina-Amalia's hospitalization at the age of 21.

Princess Catalina Amalia, the 21-year-old heir to the Dutch throne, recently underwent surgery to mend a broken upper arm after a horse riding accident. This unfortunate incident occurred when she was thrown from her horse on Tuesday, as confirmed by the Dutch royal family.

The palace announced on Wednesday that Princess Catalina Amalia, also known as Princess Orange, will remain under medical observation at UMC Utrecht throughout the week. They indicated that the procedure was successful and that she would be monitored until at least Thursday.

As a result of the accident, the royal family has had to pause some engagements, adjusting their busy schedule accordingly. Notably, a summer photo session that was supposed to take place at the royal residence, Peyris Hiz Senbosch, has been postponed to June 30 to allow the Princess a chance to recover.

Additionally, Queen Maxima canceled a planned appearance at a conference in Amsterdam while King Willem Alexander attended the opening of the Netherlands Festival on his own.

After the incident, the palace released a statement detailing the accident: “The Orange Princess broke her upper arm today after falling off her horse. She will undergo surgery at UMC Utrecht,” it noted. The princess, an enthusiastic horse rider, has a photo of herself riding a horse named Mojito displayed on the official palace website.

This situation is reminiscent of a similar incident involving Princess Anne last year. The 74-year-old spent five days hospitalized due to head injuries from a horse-related fall, which left her with a minor head wound and some memory loss.

Anne reflected on her experience, sharing insights about the importance of every day post-incident. It’s quite a journey, really, when you think about how horses can sometimes lead to unexpected challenges.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Anne faced memory issues due to a horse accident. Back in 1976, during the Montreal Olympics, a mishap led to her defeat and a subsequent loss of memory from that day. Anne is often seen as one of the most dedicated members of the royal family, and it seems that riding remains a significant part of her life.
