Schwarzenegger Warns of IRS Consequences from Newsom’s Tax Plan
Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger expressed concerns that Governor Gavin Newsom’s strategy to withhold tax payments could provoke action from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Newsom made his comments on social media after former President Donald Trump suggested cutting federal funds to California over its sanctuary policies. During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, Schwarzenegger discussed this situation, emphasizing the gravity of Trump’s threat.
Kimmel questioned Schwarzenegger about the implications of the situation, asking how it affects funding for schools and students with disabilities. Schwarzenegger noted, “We pay more in federal taxes than we receive in federal funding,” suggesting the issue is more complicated than it seems. Kimmel agreed, indicating that such matters are often more challenging in reality.
In the ongoing conflict, Newsom and Trump have also clashed over the former president’s response to unrest during the Los Angeles riots, with accusations flying about leadership during the crisis.
Schwarzenegger criticized both leaders, stating, “What we’re seeing is just rhetoric; there’s a lot of finger-pointing. They need to come together and address the real issues, not just argue.”
Amid the chaos, Trump mobilized 700 Marines to support federal forces as the riots intensified. An individual has been identified by the FBI, leading to a reward being offered for information that could assist in his capture.
Some Democratic leaders have proposed that ICE cease its activities in Los Angeles as a means to help restore order in the city.
