Teen Attack in Queens Subway Station
Last week, in a Queens metro station, three 16-year-old girls were involved in an incident where they assaulted a 15-year-old girl, as recounted by prosecutors and other sources.
The victim, a sophomore at William Cullen Bryant High School, was making her way to the 46th Avenue M and R stations around 3 PM on June 2. Reports say a group of teenagers had been trailing her, intent on what Queens DA Melinda Katz described as “an outrageous display of bullying and brutality.”
The attackers reportedly cornered the girl on the stairs, punching her in the head, face, and body, while also kicking and stomping her. They chased her in an attempt to steal her backpack, according to the District Attorney’s office.
Following this violent encounter, the victim was hospitalized but is now recovering, officials confirmed.
Authorities indicated that one teen, who is a junior at the same school and resides in Elmhurst, was arrested on charges that include attempted gang assault and attempted robbery related to this incident.
Both suspects have been placed under strict surveillance and are being monitored by probation, as stated by the DA’s office.
Judge Bruna Diviaze has scheduled a return to court for June 18, implying that the attacker could potentially face 15 years in prison if convicted.
Katz expressed deep concern over the incident, stating, “After being pursued by a group of fellow students, the victim faced relentless violence at the station. Such behavior is unacceptable here in Queens. I will hold those responsible accountable as far as the law permits. Thankfully, the victim is on the mend, but the investigation into the actions of others remains ongoing.”
Meanwhile, a third 16-year-old suspect was arrested later on Thursday, as sources reported.
This unsettling attack arrives amid discussions around rising youth violence in New York City since 2018, which has sparked debates over the state’s controversial “age-up” laws.
