Former ABC Correspondent Discusses Concerns Over Democracy

Recently ousted ABC News correspondent Terry Moran shared his thoughts on the anti-Trump resistance in a post on Subsack, expressing that democracy is at risk without active voices speaking out against the current administration.

“If we don’t use our voices we’ll lose this democracy,” Moran stated. He highlighted a recent incident involving California Senator Alex Padilla, which he described as emblematic of the present dangers.

Senator Padilla was removed from a press conference with Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem when he attempted to confront her aggressively. After trying to shout at her, law enforcement intervened, subduing him before he was handcuffed. Following this, Padilla reportedly met privately with Noem.

This confrontation quickly went viral, provoking responses from several Democrats, including Senator Patty Murray.

In a video shared by Moran, Senator Murray emphasized the importance of speaking out in the Senate and questioned the implications when voices are silenced. “What happens when that voice is thrown to the floor and handcuffed? Our democracy is lost,” she warned.

Moran resonated with her message, urging Americans to confront their realities. He noted the crucial need to speak truthfully about one’s experiences in every facet of life, from institutions to personal settings.

“Facing that danger, we all must make choices sooner or later. It’s dark right now, but let’s remember the privilege of being alive and American during this pivotal time,” he remarked, reinforcing the notion of standing up for what’s right.

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson, in response, questioned Moran’s recent public statements, suggesting he might have felt regret over his comments.

Earlier this week, Moran, who had been with ABC since 1997, faced backlash for a social media post where he referred to Trump and his aide Stephen Miller in derogatory terms. Although he deleted the post, it prompted ABC to terminate his employment, citing violations of their policies.

The network stated, “We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent posts — this was a clear violation of the ABC News Policy.”
