The US Supports Israel in Countering Iran’s Missile Threat

Recent strikes from Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear and military assets might present a unique chance for the Trump administration to exert pressure on Tehran regarding a nuclear agreement, as experts indicated. They argue that diplomatic efforts alone may not suffice in this situation.

According to Israeli officials, the operations carried out in Iran were primarily led by Israeli forces, albeit in collaboration with the United States. While US military personnel did not directly engage in the attacks, their defense cooperation persisted, especially during Iran’s counterattacks last Friday, when US assistance helped intercept missiles headed for Tel Aviv.

“This was an Israeli operation,” affirmed an IDF representative.

Commenting on the situation, Avner Golov, vice president of Mind Israel, shared that Israel endeavors to minimize US involvement while still being seen as a steadfast partner. He emphasized, “Nobody wants conflict. We achieved our objectives in a matter of days, effectively and with discipline.” He added that they neither desire prolonged warfare nor wish to entangle the US in it.

Robert Greenway from the Heritage Foundation noted the increased visibility of the ongoing conflict and emphasized that the US president has shown a preference for diplomatic resolutions. Greenway further explained the US stance: “The intention is for Iran to understand that they’ve been struck without targeting civilian areas, sending a clear message about potential consequences for continuing hostilities.” He reiterated that while military victories are critical, underlying political dialogues must follow.

The operation was likened to a structured “good cop, bad cop” strategy aimed at disorienting Iranian leadership about the timing and scale of military actions. Some analysts suspect that prior media reports might have been part of a psychological tactic to create uncertainty in Iran.

As the situation unfolds, Israel appears to be broadening its military agenda, which includes not just strikes against Iran but also engagements with various proxies in the region, according to Golov.

There’s also a cautious optimism regarding future negotiations. Greenway suggested that ongoing military actions against Iran might push them to reconsider their stance and return to talks, although he admits that this progress is not guaranteed.

Looking ahead, both analysts and officials seem to believe in the importance of leveraging this moment effectively, suggesting that the recent military actions could lay the groundwork for renewed diplomatic discussions concerning Iran’s nuclear ambitions. There’s a shared sense that the coming days and weeks will be pivotal in shaping the future dynamics of US-Iran relations.
