Officers Hurt in Anti-ICE Protest in Portland

On Saturday, a crowd targeted the Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in Portland, Oregon, leading to injuries among several police officers during an anti-Trump protest in the city.

According to reports, organizers had planned protests nationwide coinciding with President Donald Trump’s celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary with parades, fireworks, and music in Washington, D.C.

Homeland Security Advisor Tricia McLaughlin mentioned that the Portland incident involved federal officers facing fireworks, smoke projectiles, and mobs throwing rocks, stating that the group had managed to breach the ICE facility.

Despite the chaos, federal law enforcement secured the area, although four officers sustained injuries during the turmoil.

One video circulating online showed the crowd, dressed in dark clothing, chanting, “This is how democracy looks!”

Journalist Andy Ngo shared footage of officers standing their ground against protesters, some of whom claimed ties to ANTIFA.

The “king” protest began around 1 PM, where tens of thousands reportedly marched five miles from the ICE facility.

Later that evening, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) declared an illegal assembly at the protest site.

After about 30 minutes, a medical situation was reported within the ICE facility, prompting the PPB to ask the crowd not to interfere, warning that “force may be used against you.” They indicated that arrests would commence once criminal actions were observed. It was reported that one individual was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer.

As the night progressed, state troopers began to clear the scene, and video footage captured extensive damage, including broken glass and graffiti outside the facility.

A social media post from Homeland Security appeared to show an ICE agent facing personal threats.

“We will not be deterred by mob threats. ICE’s immigration enforcement will continue to escalate. The violent actions targeting Portland law enforcement are unacceptable, and the leaders of these rioters need to call for an end to this,” a spokesperson commented.
